How does Artist Top Tracks work?
Enter any artist name and Track Down builds a Spotify playlist of that artist's top tracks according to Last.fm's global scrobble data — a quick way to get a well-rounded playlist of an artist's most-played songs without hand-picking them.
Steps
- 1Enter an artist name.
- 2Track Down calls Last.fm's artist.gettoptracks endpoint (autocorrect enabled) and retrieves up to 1,000 of that artist's most-scrobbled tracks in one request.
- 3Each track is matched and scored against Spotify using the standard 40% artist / 40% track / 20% character-similarity formula.
- 4Save the confident matches to a new or existing Spotify playlist.
Frequently asked questions
Are these the artist's "best" songs or just the most popular?
Most-scrobbled, which is Last.fm's proxy for popularity across everyone who scrobbles that artist — not a curated or critical "best of" list.
Will this include the artist's new releases?
Only if they've already accumulated enough scrobbles on Last.fm to rank in the top tracks — very recent releases may not appear yet even if they're popular on Spotify.
What if I misspell the artist name?
Last.fm's autocorrect is enabled for this source, so minor misspellings are usually resolved automatically before the top-tracks lookup runs.
How is this different from Last.fm Top Tracks?
Top Tracks builds a playlist from your own scrobble history. This source ignores your account entirely and pulls one specific artist's most-scrobbled songs across all of Last.fm — use it to get to know one artist, not to back up your own listening.
