How does Flashback work?
Flashback rebuilds one specific week from your own Last.fm scrobble history as a Spotify playlist. Pick how many years back you want to go, and Track Down finds the closest matching week in your actual listening history and matches it to Spotify.
Steps
- 1Enter your Last.fm username and choose how many years back (1–10) using the dropdown.
- 2Track Down calls Last.fm's user.getweeklychartlist to get every week your account has data for, then picks the week closest to that many years ago from today.
- 3It calls user.getweeklytrackchart for that specific week to get your real scrobbles from those seven days.
- 4Each track is matched and scored against Spotify, then you save the confident matches to a playlist.
Frequently asked questions
Does Flashback pick an exact date or an approximate week?
Approximate — it finds the week in your Last.fm chart history whose start date is closest to exactly N years before today, since Last.fm's weekly charts don't align to arbitrary custom date ranges.
What if I didn't use Last.fm that far back?
If your account has no scrobble history for that period, Track Down will show an error rather than a wrong or empty playlist — the tool needs real weekly chart data to work from.
How far back can I go?
The dropdown offers 1 to 10 years back. How far you can meaningfully go depends on how long your Last.fm account has been actively scrobbling.
