How does Spotify Import work?
Paste the URL of a Spotify playlist you own and Track Down re-imports its tracks, then re-runs them through its full matching and review flow — useful for duplicating a playlist, cleaning one up, or merging it into another.
Steps
- 1Paste a Spotify playlist URL (open.spotify.com/playlist/...).
- 2Track Down extracts the playlist ID and paginates through Spotify's playlist-tracks endpoint, following the "next" cursor until every track is retrieved.
- 3Every track — even though it's already a Spotify track — is re-searched and re-scored through the same matching engine as every other source, rather than copied directly.
- 4Save the results to a new playlist or add them to an existing one.
Frequently asked questions
Why does this re-match tracks that are already on Spotify?
Track Down's save flow runs every source through the same review step by design, so you get the same confidence scoring and the ability to exclude tracks before saving, rather than a blind 1:1 copy.
Can I import a playlist I don't own?
Any playlist you can view can be read this way, but you'll need edit access on the destination playlist to add tracks to it — Track Down uses your own Spotify token for both reading and writing.
Does this work for very large playlists?
Yes — Spotify's playlist-tracks endpoint is paginated 50 tracks at a time, and Track Down follows that pagination automatically until the whole playlist has been read, regardless of size.
