How does Track Radio work?
Give Track Down one or more seed songs and Track Radio expands each into similar tracks via Last.fm, deduplicates the combined results, and matches everything to Spotify — a way to build a longer playlist that stays close to a specific sound instead of a whole artist or genre.
Steps
- 1Enter up to 40 "Artist — Track" seed lines.
- 2Track Down calls Last.fm's track.getsimilar endpoint for each seed, one at a time (autocorrect enabled, up to 200 similar tracks per seed).
- 3Results from all seeds are combined and deduplicated by matching artist and track name, so the same song from two different seeds only appears once.
- 4The deduplicated list is matched and scored against Spotify, then you save the confident matches to a playlist.
Frequently asked questions
How many seed songs can I use at once?
Up to 40. Track Down processes the first 40 "Artist — Track" lines you enter as radio seeds, one Last.fm lookup per seed; additional lines beyond that are ignored, mainly as a paste-size guard rather than an API limit.
What if two of my seed songs return the same similar track?
Track Down deduplicates by comparing artist and track name (case-insensitive) across all seeds combined, so overlapping results only appear once in the final list.
Is Track Radio the same as Spotify's own Radio feature?
No — it uses Last.fm's similar-track data, not Spotify's recommendation engine, so the results reflect Last.fm's community listening patterns rather than Spotify's own algorithm.
