How does Textbox work?
Paste a list of "Artist — Track" lines into Track Down and it searches Spotify's catalog of more than 100 million tracks for each one, scores every candidate for how well it matches, and lets you build a new Spotify playlist from the confident results in a single click.
Steps
- 1Paste your list, one "Artist — Track" pair per line, separated by an em dash, en dash, or hyphen.
- 2Click "Find Tracks." Track Down queries Spotify's search API for each line and pulls up to 5 candidate matches per track.
- 3Each candidate is scored 0–1 using 40% artist-name overlap, 40% track-title overlap, and 20% character-level (Levenshtein) similarity. Matches scoring above 0.40 are auto-selected.
- 4Review the "Needs Review" group for anything under 0.40, then save the selected tracks to a new or existing Spotify playlist.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to format my track list a specific way for this to work?
Yes — each line needs an artist and a track separated by a dash (—, –, or -), like "Radiohead — Creep." Lines without a recognizable separator are treated as a track title with no artist, which lowers match accuracy.
What happens to tracks that don't match well?
Anything scoring 0.40 or below on Track Down's matching scale lands in a separate "Needs Review" list instead of being auto-selected, so you can manually check or swap the match before saving.
Is there a limit to how many tracks I can paste in at once?
No hard limit in the textbox itself. Saving is batched in groups of 100 tracks per request because that's the maximum Spotify's own playlist-add API accepts per call.
Can I paste a list of albums instead of individual tracks?
Yes — switch the toggle to "Artist — Album" above the textbox. Each line is matched to a Spotify album instead of a track, and every track on that album is added automatically, so one line can expand into a dozen tracks.
